Foot Found in Baby's Brain
January 18th 2009 16:28
The now famous three-month-old Sam Esquibel is doing well after a foot was found inside his brain. Dr Grabb, medical surgeon at Memorial Hospital for Children in Colorado Springs, says that while removing the growth in Sam's brain, he discovered it contained a nearly perfect foot, complete with five toes, along with the formation of another foot, a hand and a thigh. Grabb is not sure what caused the growth but said it may have been a type of congenital brain tumor, however, such tumors usually are less complex than a foot or hand, he said. The growth may also have been a case of 'fetus in fetu' - in which a fetal twin begins to form within another - but such cases very rarely occur in the brain.
“He is a miracle,” Sam’s mother Tiffnie Esquibel told TODAY’s Matt Lauer. “I just love him so much.” Esquibel and her husband tried for most of their 13-years of marriage to have a child, and had finally resigned themselves to being childless when Tiffnie became pregnant with Sam. After birth, Sam was rushed to Memorial Hospital for Children. Post-surgery Sam is a happy and healthy three-month-old.

I'd opt for the second twin developing theory, more common than you'd think, and if it tried to grow it wouldn't mind where it was.
