While on social networking site Twitter, 46-year-old star Demi Moore received a message which stated, "Getting a knife, a big one that is sharp. Going to cut my arm down the whole arm so it doesn't waste time." Fearing for the suicidal woman’s life, Moore reposted the woman’s suicide “note” on her own personal page, prompting other “twitterers” to notify authorities.
Phone calls were received from across the nation. San Jose police spokesperson stated that the suicidal woman received no injuries and was placed at a nearby hospital for psychiatric evaluation. Moore posted a comment on her own Twitter page. "It is my understanding that the situation was not a joke and that through the collective efforts here action was taken to provide help!" She also said, “Everyone I was very torn about responding or retweeting that woman’s post but felt uncomfortable just letting it go,” In another post, she wrote, “Thanks everyone for reaching out to the San Jose PD I am told they are aware and no need to call anymore. I do not know this woman.”
Even Demi’s husband Ashton Kutcher used the social networking site to give his wife Kudos. "Wifey reported a suicide attempt based on a at reply tweet she got and saved someones life. the woman is in the hospital now (sic)."
Twitter, similar to MySpace and Facebook, is a series of status updates. Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing? Some famous celebs with twitter pages are Kim Kardashian, Ryan Seacrest and P. Diddy.
