Conjoined Twin Engaged

It was announced on XM Radio that conjoined twin Brittany Hensel is engaged. The connected twins were born in Minnesota and sky-rocketed to fame the moment they were born. To heighten peoples’ curiosity, Brittany and Abby filmed a popular documentary for the TLC channel and have been seen in various esteemed magazines.


Though Brittany is engaged, Abby (her other half) is not engaged. They also have separate driver’s licenses, favorite foods, distinct personalities and so forth. So why is it so shocking to know one is engaged? What about sex? Let’s face it. Sex is the question on everyone’s mind. It’s not like one can leave while the other is having sex. Will both enjoy the sex together? If they have children whose child will it be? I suppose what is awkward to us is normal to them. Best of luck Brittany, and congratulations on your engagement.

Meh- really, who cares how they have sex... are we ment to ponder the sexual appetites of every living person on the planet? FUCK! That doesn't leave one with much time for anything else--- Imagine that, having to devote a ponderous moment to each and every person on the plant (like over SIX-BILLION!!!!).

These girls really are two separate people- two minds, to hearts... sure, they share the reproductive organs, but all that really means is if one was to fall pregnant the other is like a semi-surrogate mother I guess.

I rarely think of other people having sex, I'm really not interested; but with something so very unusual ... my mind goes into overdrive. That's pretty normal, I'd say. There was a pair of Siamese twins, I think it was the originals, who had a falling out and didn't speak for about 10 years. That's weird too.

Anyone who throws a shadow over these two girls, young women is not just a cynic but a butt-head! plain and simple. People, get your head out of the gutter about this. I am certain this is something three of them have discussed. They are adults here you know. I am certain these girls have had a handson approach with thier doctor and have been schooled in things we as normal (whatever that maybe) people couldn't imagine.

Give this guy a break for Christ sakes. There are a few of us guys who do look for that inner beauty, the soul of that person. Big hooters, juicy buttocks, take them all. Gees Alt-ed, hostile much? Nobody is wishing them ill, we are all just finding it hard to wrap our heads around. All of us want to believe that people will love someone for pure reasons but in this case the guy truly is marrying two women. What on earth will happen if he and the other twin have a falling out? It's just something that is natural human curiosity to wonder about. I think everybody actually hopes they'll all find real happiness but because it's so far out of the spectrum of what any of us would normally face we are curious about it all.

I'm with Alt_ed, Ruby and Tracy on this one (and thank you, Alt_ed and Ruby, for making me laugh!)... life is difficult, but you find a way to make it work - at least, that's what I think right now.

I'm sure all three people are as happy as they can be, and I'm shocked at Teresa's implication that the twins parents might not have let them live. Nowhere in this post was there even a hint of such murderous intent from anyone.

Oh, and imagine if they read this? How do you think they would feel? It's also never nice to assume things about people you've never met, like the kind of people they attract. Why do we have to jump to conclusions?

No-one was making assumptions, PMC, simply throwing a few thoughts into the air, as people do.
As for the implication that the twins parents might not let them live: I was told years ago by nurses that when babies are born with deformities such as this it is left up to the parents to decide if they are to live. I just assumed everyone knew this. If more people looked beyond 'normal' then we would have many more strange looking people. Have you ever seen the 1932 film 'Freaks'?
I'm sure these girls have plenty of more important things to deal with in their lives than to worry about a few people discussing how they would have sex.

Well thank god Teresa, in Australia we've a multitude of specialist facilities (institutions) where these "strange" people are locked up and kept away from us "normal" people.

From a legal perspective they are two people.
So it was important to make that distinction for the purpose of marriage.
In reality its a two for one deal for the husband.
My advice is not to rush into marriage but live with them and see how things go.
The kinky thrills might wane pretty quickly.
Also remember sex isnt only involving the genitals.
I hope that they can take turns at blow jobs.
He should be able to count on double the bj action.
In a way thats a fair compensation for twice the nagging he will need to put up with.

I admit I was stunned when I first saw these two girls in a documentary, and who wouldn't be? But it took just 5 minutes to adjust and get used to the idea. I'm sick of hearing people scream "Monster!" (as has been repeatedly shouted by some intolerant dipshit on this thread)They are two lovely girls who are stuck together by a known in-utero condition. With regards to relationships: they also share the same sensations from the navel downwards, so I would think that any sexual activity would clearly be an issue for them both. So one twin is serious with a guy - the other twin would surely have to be consenting, else she would be engaging in activity with a man she didn't want near her! It's a hell of a conundrum, but it's just one of many hurdles that these two girls have had to overcome, hurdles that most of us never have to deal with. This makes them all the stronger for it. I (and the people around me) have been constantly re-working my understanding of the human mind. This involves what happens during sex.

As each partner (or single, if masturbating) approaches orgasm, their bodies put hormones into their blood stream. When these super-concentrated hormones reach the brain, they burn-in whatever image, feeling, sensation, or any other input the person is receiving. This burned-in sensation is now a turn-on.

As my own curiosity permited, I masturbated to the idea of my girlfriend and I hugging and the lighthearted feeling she created. As a result, when we hugged and/or kissed, I got aroused. I think that they have discussed the situation fully. In the work place, they will have to be paid two separate salaries, they have two separate drivers license, two separate social security numbers, life insurance policies, etc. They are two different people. Now when it comes to marriage...why cant they both marry the same man? The answer is simple: Outside of the state of Utah a husband may not have more than one wife. Britney and Abby are probably both getting married and did a paper, sissors, rock as to who will be awarded the engagement and get to kiss the boy at the wedding.

I think that both of them know that their situation is different from most americans and this way they can both get a legal christian marriage. I am sure that God knows the situation they are presented [although I am a believer in science] and it would be improper for them to have two separate husbands sharing the same vagina--because it would complicate things between both sisters and the men as to producing offspring with different dna from the same organism and its also incest for both of them being both mom and aunt [atleast from a religous point of view]. The government will not allow one man to marry both of them because that would open up a large array of problems with the homosexual marriage situation.

I think that the man 'britney' is marrying will be a great husband to both britney and abigail. He is probably one of their close friends and the three of them have come to terms with the fate. I think that he is getting two special women who will love him unconditionally.

This family situation is great because there will be three incomes and when the kids are born, they may have to deal with teasing, as I am bure brit and abby have come to terms with over the years, but will be better cared for than most children in the american population.

Besides, individuals how have come before and after me, sex is a private matter! Exactly how do you have sex with your spouse? How deep is your wife's vagina or how big is your husband's penis? Uncomfortable, right? Let them decide how they will have sex because its really not a public matter.

My perception may be incorrect, but I hope britney and abigail have a wonderful life that is full of love, passion, romance, and most of all happiness. Everyone has struggles and it brings joy to my heart to see how these two sisters have coped with their biological status--and have unconditional love for each other.

Don;t you have anything better to do than tear apart two children? They have been in the limelight since birth and are a bit tired of it and are trying to live normal lives. Who cares about the sexual relations with their respective husbands, that is theirs to work out.
You should be thanking God that you did not have to go through it either in your life or your childrens life.

I'm not sure how they expect to be paid two salaries. Its not like they can work on two computers with only 2 hands. Also, if employed, they will both necessarily have to take the same job at the same place. I wonder how they manage sleep. Does one sleep while the body and the head of the other carry on awake? Or must they both be asleep at the same time? What happens if one (god forbid) dies? How do they coordinate movement of hands and legs? Does one control the left leg and the other controls the right? It would be take miracle of coordination just to stand and walk straight. Also, how about hunger? Do they feel hungry at the same time? If they have separate driving licences, it means they would have had separate tests. How did the inspector know who was actually driving the car? If either commits a crime, how does the judiciary justify penalising the other by sending them both to jail?
I must say, I'm fascinated by both of them. I hope things turn out well for the both of them.

It appears that many commenters haven't actually watched the documentary on these 2 girls, thus know nothing about them and are commenting out of their asses.

They are indeed separate individuals that just happen to have their bodies conjoined. They each have separate heads, mouths, esophaguses, stomachs, and lungs although the lungs facing each other in the middle conjoin toward the bottom lobe. Their small intestines start out as separate then conjoin and from there on, everything is one. One large intestine, one bladder, one colon, one reproductive system. They do have 3 kidneys and an XL conjoined liver. They each control their respective sides of the body -- Abby controls the right arm and right leg, Brittany controls the left arm and left leg. When they took their driving tests, Abby controls the pedals and the shifter, Brittany controls the turn signal and the windshield wipers, and they both steer. They accomplish this easily because they've grown up since birth learning how to coordinate their halfs of the body -- they walk, run, swim on a swim team, play softball, play volleyball, type e-mails together, etc. If you spent every waking moment with someone from birth to almost 19 years of age, you would learn to be coordinated with them too. Plus twins have that special psychological connection, thus they understand each other and are on the same wavelength. It's no different than identical twins who live across the country from each other and somehow just "know" when something is wrong with the other. These two just happen to be conjoined. The girls had to be authorized 2 driver's licenses because they have 2 separate social security numbers, thus the government identifies them as 2 separate people. I would assume that this also means they cannot marry the same man as it would be illegal. HOWEVER, this would be something that would be individually decided by the girls AND the court system as needed -- just like when they discussed if they got pulled over and recieved a traffic ticket...they would let the court decide who would get the ticket based on the infraction and who was controlling the corresponding part of the vehicle (or if both would get a ticket). As for sex -- because there's a split right down the middle of the body in terms of nerve endings, they both would feel it. And for their sake, I hope both would be able to get enjoyment out of it. If you think about it, they have done all intimate things together since birth -- urinating, defecating, dealing with their period, bathing, dressing, etc...sex would be right along the same lines and probably not bother either to have to be present. If the other didn't want to partake in the act, they would either not go through with it or the non-participant would probably put on headphones and tune it out or something. Just like other conjoined twins do when one is doing something the other doesn't want to be part of. It's something they will have to decide how to handle between themselves and also with their respective partner(s), who obviously will have had to think about that situation and be comfortable with it before they even started dating either of them.

In regard to the comment above from whoever said they were told by nurses that parents could choose whether deformed babies live or not...that only applies to babies with massive deformities that require them to be on some kind of life support -- respirator, dialysis, etc. Parents can choose to pull the plug and allow nature to take its course. In the case with Abby and Britney, they were perfectly functional right at birth and did NOT require any kind of life support, thus they lived on their own and thrived. You cannot choose to "euthanize" them like an unwanted dog. That's disturbing. Also, their parents had no idea they were expecting twins let alone conjoined girls. They were expecting one baby and were surprised right along with the doctors when they pulled Abby and Brittany out.

It doesn't make anyone a "freak" to wonder these types of things about these 2 extraordinary ladies. It is human nature to be curious and inquisitive about things out of the ordinary, and doctors are just as curious about them as the public. However, it has been the parents' and the girls' choice to not be subjected to medical testing unless medically necessary for health reasons. They don't feel that they should be a science experiment, they just want to do everything they can to live normal lives as much as possible and when situations arise, make the best of it and compromise. I think they should be APPLAUDED for their hard work, dedication, and courage.

I love you "Abby and Brit Supporter!!!" You are clearly educated and think about the girls as they think about themselves because of it. I have watched all the clips of their documentary that I could find on YouTube and I think they are extraordinary young women. I'm not on here to speculate; what most of you have been picking apart is solely their business, and although it is natural to wonder about it, since humans are curious and they ARE an anomaly, they don't deserve to be conjectured about in the way that is taking place on this thread any more than anyone else deserves to have their sex life analyzed.

As a single person in a single body, I too have a difficult time imagining how both the physical and emotional issues play out in terms of their dating and marriage. No matter what there will have to be some degree of sharing. However, as the lovely person above me pointed out, their conception of intimacy is very different from all of ours, so it doesn't have to make sense to us.

Please, go easy on these ladies. They are beautiful, graceful, and strong, and highly committed to living as normal a life as all their peers do. They accomplish that goal magnificently. If you haven't watched their documentaries, look them up on YouTube: "Joined for Life" 1 through 5. They explain a lot about their lives and you see the remarkable way in which they live in their very unique situation. Anyone who is hating on them will probably feel a lot differently after they watch these. Be kind; they are just other human beings like us, they feel just as we do. I admire the parents, their friends and their piers for accepting Abby and Brittney and supporting them through every moment of their lives. But....I too am skeptical of love and a sexual relationship. I am concerned for their mental health in regards to this. It is difficult at best to wrap my mind around this. These two wonderful girls have basic human rights like the rest of us.

Good healthy questions are not about "how" they have sex, but if they agree to it. What if one doesn't agree and her twin has sex - isn't that rape? If one is married and the other not, isn't that illegal in about 49 states?

The children - whose are they, especially if two husbands are actively involved. Will a DNA test reveal the real mother?

Besides, someone blogged that Brittany controls a leg. From what I have read Abby controls both legs and Brittany controls only the left arm. I would think walking would not be as graceful if each controlled a leg.

They equally split their body in terms of what they control and feel. That has been explicitly stated in the documentary about them. Abby controls the entire right side, Brittany the entire left side. In light of that, their grace in walking is amazing.

The documentary also explained what organs are shared, and their entire reproductive system is shared. That means that they would probably sense equally, and that the DNA in their eggs would be the same. So if they both have children with different husbands, their children would biologically be half-siblings. But Abby and Brittany are legally two individual people with distinct driver's licenses and Social Security numbers. So their children would be legally the child of the husband in question and whichever mother's name was put on the birth certificate. The father of the child would be determined by DNA testing, so his wife would naturally be written down on the birth certificate as the mother.

I know the idea of having 2 husbands with 2 wives sharing 1 body seems really weird when we think about the sensations and intimacy of sex, but as one astute commenter here pointed out, they are such an exception that things that seem weird to us are just normal to them. You're right about them. They are truly wonderful girls.

The only real exception to your comments is that when, or if, they have sexual intercourse it's not going to be easy for one girl to "turn that blind eye.
It has been made clear that the each girl controls and feels their half of the body. Shares the senses of that area of there body. So if one girl has sex, both feel it. So if one doesn't want sex, that would constitute rape. So the only other option here is, that both girls "want" sex.

It's not a problem for me, because maybe I am part perv, but many see this as totally unacceptable behavior. Essentially it will be a threesome every time they have sex with a guy. I really hope they have a happy life. But,...in all honesty....if it were me and my conjoined twin were to get married, I would probably ask the doctors if there were a way that I could take some sort of sleeping aid or use some type of meditatopm technique. So I could not be fully aware when my twin and her husband were being intimate. That is an emotional tender moment and it will be a very difficult adjustment to make when three people are in such a relationship. Serioussly...they both will technically be the mother of future children, because they both will have to give birth. The genetics of regular twins is hard enough and I couldn't even imagine being a conjoined twin. As for the man or men that marry into such a situation...all I can say is that you should get professional help to help you to be prepared for such a situation, because dealing with the in-laws is hard enough without having one attached to your wife in bed for the next 50 years.

I think it would gross to have another face to close to yours. I HATE when people talk in my face...and I'm repulsed by the thought of another person's breath near my face and nose.

They should write a book. It would most likely be a great financial move and you KNOW the publishing companies would fight for them.

think about it, these girls have had to do every private, embarrassing thing imaginable together and in front of each other for 20 years, so i’m sure it would be no big deal for them to have sex together with one man. they would probably both be into it, since they share the same sex organs, and therefore, the same orgasms. the guy would probably find it fun and exciting, and maybe he would be allowed to touch the other girl’s side and kiss her as well. however, when the other girl gets married later, the new guy will have to get used to living in the same house as the other husband, and taking turns of who’s going to have sex with the girls on which night. one of the husbands would have to sleep on the couch when one of those nights happens. and i’m curious, when one of them dies, would doctors just surgically cut the dead girl’s head off? and leave the other to only be able to use half of her body? or since they pretty much share the same organs, would they just die at the same time from an illness, ailment or old age that came about?

That about sums up all the sex stuff.

How about marriage? How would the day to day be with two husbands.
I think having two husbands "in the family", if they are the right guys, would make life so much better for everyone concerned.
The income needed for special health issues, raising the baby(s). One could stay home while the other worked. It would be so much harder for one husband to take care of them all.

determining the mother of the child, for when they get pregnant, is also more logical than people think. it would all depend on which husband of the girls gets them pregnant. the mother would be whomever is married to that husband who was trying to get them pregnant. the two husbands would also have to take turns with that, y'know, trying to create a baby with the girls.

Yeah but still 2 people would be the mother of one biological baby. AND they would have to DNA test each baby to determine paternity each time. Nothing like waiting until your baby is born to know if you were the one to put the ball in the hoop if you get my drift?

Ok....I can't believe I came back here, but I had to throw this out there....Wouldn't it have been perfect if they had just fallen in love with regular identical twins? But, I know, it is not an ideal world and we can't help who we fall in love with....BUT....that would have been perfect. I don't think we would be as curious about the situation then, because...think about it...identical twin DNA is the same and there couldn't really be any question of paternity because DNA tests would show that both men would technically be the father.

That's absurd. Identical twins are still TWO SEPARATE people. Are you suggesting that children and parents are interchangable because they are identiacal twins? Your child is YOUR child regardless of whether you have a twin or not. Give me a break.

If YOU had an indentical twin, and the two of you married identical twins, and then you both went on to have children, are you saying that you could swap kids and that would be ok with you simply because both sets of parents are identical twins??? Clearly you didn't pay attention in biology class

Just because both sets of twin PARENTS may have the same DNA doesn't mean their KIDS are going to look alike!! In fact one married couple could have a BOY and the other a GIRL. Idiot.

i guess their kids would just have two moms on their birth certificate, and would call both of them "mom." they'd probably end up calling the two husbands "dad" too, since it would weird to try and explain to the kids which dad created them. nothing wrong with that.

I figured that the child would refer to whichever twin was married to the biological father, 'Mom' . They created that child together and they are the ones married or involved. I couldn't imagine having a baby growing inside you, giving birth and then realizing that you aren't the actual mom, but the aunt. whatever the case may be. The child will be very much loved.

But really, I wonder if they can even HAVE children. I tend to doubt it.

Yeah i think if both were freaks in bed .I guess they would have to be hahaha. Anyway I like the other guys comment for dem to get in the porn business. The directors imagination could go wild with dem. Also reading eveyones comments on here have raised alot of questions that are hard to figure out. Like if one dies? IF there is a diety that is all powerful and rightous then according to YOUR Xtian laws he will forgive me and I will ascend to heaven anyways, wo what does it matter. As long as I attone for my sins and accept Jesus then I am good to go right? Well Jesus was a JEW and JEWS are expected to have a BRAIN (unlike Christians who are expected to be sheep).
